Bolster success


Executive leadership, often examined through a company's CEO,typically showcases how a company operates. As America's workplaceconstantly evolves, the customer remains the center of focus. CEOslooking to bolster their company's success and improve theworkplace understand that diversity can do just that. After hearingabout the CEO Action initiative, "I knew it made sense to join,"said Downey.

The CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion is the largestCEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusionwithin the workplace. With more than 250 CEOs signing up, "thiscommitment is driven by a realization that addressing diversity andinclusion is not a competitive issue, but a societal issue."

While the coalition represents nearly 70 industries, all 50 U.S.states and millions of employees globally, there are an abundantnumber of CEOs who have not stepped up to meet thepledge. Despite this, Downey looks forward to what's tocome.

Commitments by insurance industry CEOs


"I have been very impressed with several of the commitmentsexpressed by fellow insurance industry CEOs, which reflect severalof our initiatives: supporting the work of employee resourcegroups, expanding community service commitments, and providingeducation on unconscious bias," said Downey. "I look forward tolearning more from my peers at the Diversity & Inclusion Summitin November and, together, serving as role models in thisspace."

The CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion coalition will cometogether for the first-ever 2017 CEO Action for Diversity &Inclusion Summit in November. It will be an opportunity for thesignatories to act on the commitments within the pledge, share bestknown actions, and look toward developing additional commitmentsfor advancing diversity and inclusion within the workplace.
