FAQ

1. How did the Designation Program get started?

The National Underwriter Company has long been recognized as the industry’s most authoritative coverage expert. The FC&S Bulletins, Coverage Guide Series and other publications are relied upon through the industry to check coverage knowledge, by insurers, claims people, producers and more. After all, coverage is what we sell and service. The Coverage Specialist designation programs were born of a desire to provide a way for dedicated professionals to grow their expertise with the key lines of business in both personal and commercial lines. Whether new to the industry or seasoned professional, coverage is a topic that is constantly in flux, requiring a deep level of expertise.

2. What qualifications do I need to participate in the Designation Programs?

One of the following qualifications is recommended for an individual to be eligible for either the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) program or the Personal Lines Coverage Specialist (PLCS) program, or the Small Business Coverage Specialist(SBCS) Program.

  • Licensed agent, broker, adjuster, CSR or solicitor
  • At least one year of full-time experience in the insurance industry or as a risk management practitioner
  • Successful completion of the required course of studies through an academic institution authorized to confer CLCS, PLCS and SBCS designations.
3. Can I earn additional Continuing Education credits for these courses?

Call 1-800-543-0847 or email [email protected] before taking your first exam.

Students must pass the CE exam associated with the Coverage Guide or ELearning with a 70% or higher score.
