The average cost for a personal auto insurance policy was up slightly more than 22% at the end of February 2024, pushing 49% of U.S. policyholders to seek quotes from a different carrier, according to
J.D. Power. While nearly half of auto policyholders are actively shopping around, just 29% switched carriers. J.D. Power reported that
Gen Z drivers were the most likely to switch insurance providers. Additionally, customer satisfaction with auto insurance companies has hit a lull and this is moving some policyholders to seek out new coverage, the data analytics and consumer research company reported.
The slideshow above reviews the personal auto insurers with the highest customer satisfaction ratings, according to J.D. Power. The rankings are based on a survey of 10,003 insurance customers who have requested an auto insurance quote during the past six months. The study also found that carriers are pulling back on
usage-based insurance (UBI) offerings with only 15% of insurance shoppers receiving a UBI program quote. In 2022, 20% of shoppers received a quote from a UBI program, while 22% of shoppers said the said in 2023. Further, price satisfaction among policyholders enrolled in a UBI program is slipping. J.D. Power reported a 6-point increase in price satisfaction among these policyholders in 2024 compared with a 32-point difference in 2023.
