Around 80% of American drivers said they had road rage or drove aggressively at least once in 2019, according to a survey from
The Zebra. In addition to making roads more dangerous, these types of behaviors can have a negative impact on
auto insurance rates. For example, a ticket for tailgating or careless driving can result in a nearly 50% rate increase, according to
Insurify.
According to PolicyAdvice, road rage can be listed as an exemption in an auto policy. If a police report indicates road rage was the cause of an accident, coverage could be denied. Further, around 70% of U.S. drivers said they have witnessed some form of road rage during the past year, according to a survey from
Jerry Insurance Agency LLC, which also found 30% of American drivers believe roadways are becoming more dangerous.
