Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those whohave served our country.

The holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism ofthose who died in our country's service, and was originallycalled Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11, because that isthe anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended WorldWar I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to "Veterans Day"in order to account for all veterans in all wars.

Many property and casualty insurance companies have found a wayto honor United States veterans throughout the year by becomingmilitary-friendly employers.

The 2016list of Military Friendly Employers distinguishes companies whoboast the strongest job opportunities, hiring practices andretention programs for transitioning service members and spousesseeking civilian employment.

About the list

Developed through more than a decade of proprietaryresearch, MilitaryFriendly ratings and resources provide service membersand their families with the information they need to make decisionsabout civilian careers and education opportunities.

The Military Friendly list uses a combination of data to scoreorganizations, including publicly available data from federalagencies, properietary survey data and personal opinion data fromvetersn themselves. The surveys consists of 100 questionsand covers key areas determined to be important faction insupporting military talent.
