The Ward Group, a Cincinnati-based consulting firm, said it has completed an analysis of over 2,700 U.S. property-casualty insurance companies for its annual top-50 list.

Companies that made the top 50 have produced a 17.8 percent return on average equity from 2002 to 2006 compared with 12.3 percent for the p-c industry overall, according to Ward Group.

The companies on the list, Ward Group said, have passed all safety and consistency screens and achieved superior performance over the past five years. The firm said the primary objective of the list is to benchmark their performance as a group with the rest of the property-casualty insurance industry.
