There is a morbid joke going around among some of us in the New York area about what we found we cant control: weve had an earthquake and hurricane within one week; all we need is a plague of locusts and our disaster experience with Mother Nature will be complete.

New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, accused of being missing in action during a mega snowstorm last winter, was under a microscope before, during and after Hurricane Irene. And clearly he was determined to get it right this time.
