Insurance professionals tend to look to the authoritative carrier performance analysis released annually by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) to gauge the viability and competitive prowess of any given insurer. Consumers, however, access a variety of different sources when researching insurance, and the Forbes family of publications looms large when it comes to consumer-driven, financial-services information. It follows that when Forbes Advisor ranks insurance carriers, its editors take into consideration such policyholder concerns as cost and the caliber of customer service as opposed to the annual premium earnings reported by the NAIC. Forbes Advisor also has the luxury of frequently revisiting such rankings to determine how consumers view insurers over time. This was the case with the recent "Best Homeowners Insurance Companies" research published by Forbes Advisor — a series that takes a more microeconomic approach to insurer reviews than the annual "Best" or "Top" lists. The slideshow above illustrates the top-rated large home insurance companies compiled by Forbes Advisor in early March 2022. While some of the companies listed also are advertisers, Forbes Advisor editors explain that advertising interests do not play a role in their editorial rankings. See also:
