Since 2016, millennials have been the largest generation in the U.S. workforce, according to the Pew Research Center, which reported the cohort accounts for more than one-third of all U.S. workers. In addition to being the biggest demographic group in the labor pool, millennials also show more willingness to change jobs than other generations, Gallup reported. Further, less than 30% of millennials are hoping to be at their current company within the coming five years. When it comes to making a job change, 35% of millennials do so because they received a better opportunity. An ability to keep the cohort engage seems to be critical to offering fulfilling positions for millennial employees, with just 29% saying they are engaged at work. The national average across generations is 34%. Further, 55% report not being engaged, while 16% of millennials said they are actively disengaged at work. Great Place to Work found that the top five things millennials want in a workplace are:

  1. Fair pay and personal meaning.
  2. Inclusive benefits that go beyond parenthood, such as "pawternity leave."
  3. Gender equity at all levels of an organization.
  4. Flexibility in post-pandemic plans.
  5. A welcoming environment where they can be involved.
