The estimated total economic losses from natural catastrophesand man-made disasters was $158 billion in 2016 — up from $94billion in 2015 — according to estimates released by Zurich,Switzerland-based insurer Swiss Re.
At the same time, losses resulting from man-made disasters fellto $7 billion from $9 billion in 2015. Globally, there wereapproximately 10,000 victims in disaster events in 2016.
