While they may have built a dynasty around duck hunting, theRobertson family also knows a thing or two about deep-frying aThanksgiving turkey.

State Farm has teamed up with Si and Jase Robertson, members ofthe Duck Commander familyand stars of the hit A&E program Duck Dynasty, tooffer safety tips for properly frying a turkey in a new videotitled “Hang On A Minute with Jase and Si Robertson.”

“So you want to deep-fry a turkey,” says Jase, getting out ofhis pickup truck. “Excellent choice.”

Jase continues to make his way to the house, fire extinguisherin hand, as he lists the different precautions one should take whenfrying the bird. We see that Si could have benefitted from hisnephew's advice.

The Robertsons are no stranger to turkey frying, says HeatherPaul, State Farm public affairs speciallist. The family has beenfeatured frying a turkey, among other things, on their TV show.

“I saw the episode and said, 'Oh my god! Gettingthem would be excellent!,'” says Paul. “We reached out andthey immediately said yes and were so incredibly generous withtheir time.”

Based on data from State Farm, more cooking fires occur onThanksgiving than any other day of the year. The good news is thatState Farm cooking fire claims on Thanksgiving Day have beenreduced from 66 claims in 2010 to 29 claims in 2012, the lowestnumber of claims in a decade.

November is the number one month for grease and cooking relatedfire and December is the second highest month.

“This campaign has really resonated with consumers and hasproduced a great result,” Paul says. “It's an entertaining way ofgetting this message out without making light of it.”
