Yesterday Gov. Chris Christie relayed some encouraging news for the approximately 2,100 New Jersey homeowners still on waiting lists for two key grants to rebuild after Hurricane Sandy: a major reallocation of federal dollars.

The state has proposed to reallocate $110 million in grant money reserved for business recovery loans to the Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Elevation and Mitigation (RREM) program, as well as $35 million to the Resettlement Program, according to the revision. Among its other aims, the program will ideally help communities continue to identify and demolish unsafe buildings that were damaged during Sandy, as well as remove the debris.
