Joan Lamm-Tennant has been chosen as 2013's InsuranceWoman of the Year by the Association of Professional InsuranceWomen.

Lamm-Tennant is the global chief economist and risk strategistfor Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC, where she advises executivesand directors on emerging trends in advanced and developingeconomies, corporate strategy, risk and capital management andgovernance.

In her more than 35 years of experience in the insuranceindustry, Ms. Lamm-Tenant has worked as the vice president of Marsh& McLennan Companies, Inc., and senior vice president ofGeneral Re Corporation. She was an adjunct professor of the WhartonSchool of the University of Pennsylvania and currently serves onthe Board of Directors for Selective Insurance Group, Inc., and theInternational Insurance Society.

Lamm-Tennant holds a Ph.D. in Finance and Investments from theUniversity of Texas, Austin.

The annual APIW Insurance Woman of the Year award, presentedsince 1976, recognizes females who have achieved notable positionsin the insurance profession and made contributions to the widerinsurance industry. The nominations are solicited from anindependent committee of professionals appointed by the previousAPIW president.
