A former claim adjuster was making some positive adjustments to her bank account, and now she'll be paying for it.

Shironda Aretha Jones, 32, was working for Nationwide Insurance when she fraudulently indicated that checks written to her were written for legitimate claims. Jones created a fairly simple case for investigators by making herself the payee on all of the checks, as well as endorsing them, and depositing them into her personal accounts.

She now faces three years in prison, five years probation, 40 hours of community service, and $16,033.07 in restitution to Nationwide. The conviction follows a joint investigation by the Insurance Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance Administration and the Office of the Attorney General. Assistant Attorney General Roberta G. Siskind prosecuted the case.
