Chilly economic winds have killed off an insurance tradeorganization's plans for a climate issues conference.

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies announcedthat it was cancelling its planned conference on climate issuesscheduled for March.

The conference hoped to provide a comprehensive forum for anexchange of information on the aspects of climate change and howthey will affect insurers.

This was to be the first year of the conference, and the lack ofname recognition, combined with tightening travel budgets at mostcompanies, contributed to its cancellation, the organizationexplained.

Nancy Grover, media relations director for the NAMIC, said“There is definite interest in the topic, but due to a combinationof factors, the conference was not viable this year.”
