Severe storms hit the southern states over the night of February 5, killing at least 32 people and injuring more than 100. According to Guy Carpenter's catastrophe information report, the 50 tornadoes that touched down in Arkansas, Kentucky , Mississippi , and Tennessee were caused by a cold front meeting the warm air in the south. The report also mentioned that approximately 65,000 homes across Tennessee lost power as a result of the tornadoes.
Risk Management Solutions has reported that Hundreds of properties have been destroyed and the current death toll as of today stands at over 50 with hundreds more injured.
Several insurers have already deployed their catastrophe management teams, including Travelers and Farmers Insurance. Travelers said in a release that they have sent their Mobile Claim Headquarters to the hardest-hit areas to help customers in need of urgent service by providing on the spot claim services including personalized debit cards for instant access to cash, to cover immediate needs for food, clothing and shelter.
