The Public Entity Risk Institute, a nonprofit risk managementtraining and educational organization, said the U.S. Department ofHomeland Security has awarded a $750,000 development grant forsystems and guidance to minimize liability risks whenmunicipalities use volunteers.
The Fairfax, Va.-based PERI said this included research in theuse of citizens and volunteers to support emergency responders.
PERI said the grant was awarded as part of the fiscal-year 2006Citizen Corps Support Program operated by the DHS' PreparednessDirectorate.
