The holidays are a time to spread cheer and celebrate with loved ones. However, many toys gifted during the holiday season contain hidden hazards that unnecessarily put children at risk of injury or death, according to World Against Toys Causing Harm, Inc. (W.A.T.C.H.). In fact, every three minutes, one child in the U.S. is treated in an emergency room for a toy-related injury. To help parents and caregivers know what to be aware of this gift-giving season, the toy safety advocacy group recently released its annual list of 10 worst toys. "With the recent surge of COVID-19 cases, families looking for ways to keep their children engaged while socially distancing at home are relying on manufacturers more heavily to make sure their children's toys are designed with safety as the top priority," W.A.T.C.H. said in a statement. "Unfortunately, there have been many deaths, disfigurements, and disabilities inflicted upon children as a result of poorly designed and tested toys." Some toys on this year's list feature classic dangers, such as small parts, projectiles, toxic substances, rigid materials, and more.
