But, like any piece of machinery, motorcycles come with risks, and those risks can translate into practical expenses for motorcycle lovers. "Motorcycle riders are over-represented in traffic fatalities," according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrative. Nearly 5,000 motorcyclists were killed in accidents in 2018, but only 71% of bikers reportedly wore helmets that year, the NHTSA says. Choosing to ride a motorcycle is risky, but that shouldn't mean that lovers of open-air transportation should also have to pay the proverbial 'arm and a leg' to insure their bikes.
