Thankfully, there are few safetyconcerns or product recalls when it comes to chocolate—which shouldprovide some comfort to insurance carriers whose clients producecandy, chocolate syrup and other delectable items.

Have you ever wondered which country’s citizens account for thehighest chocolate consumption? If you guessed the U.S. — whichcelebrates Oct. 28 as National Chocolate Day — you’d be mistaken.

According to Statista, the winner is Switzerland, renownedfor its exceptional chocolate. From all of those prism-shapedToblerone bars in airport duty free shops across the world to themore local Cailler and Frey varieties, it should come as littlesurprise that Swiss people consume the most chocolate per capita ofany country worldwide. Every year, the average Swiss person eatsjust under 20 pounds of chocolate. Neighboring Germany is also anation of chocoholics with annual consumption per capita amountingto 17.4 pounds.

The Irish also have a sweet tooth and they tie for third withthe United Kingdom at 16.3 pounds per year. The U.S. can’t competewith Europe in the chocolate consumption league and it’s barely inthe top 10, coming in ninth overall—the average American eats about9.5 pounds of chocolate each year.
