(Bloomberg) — The jet part found on Reunion island belonged toMalaysia Airlines' missing Flight 370, the Paris prosecutors'office said, citing numbers on the part.

One of the three numbers identified corresponds to the serialnumber of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777, the prosecutors' officesaid in an e-mailed statement.

Proving a connection to Flight 370 is an important symbolicfirst step in solving the mystery of what happened to the flightand raises hopes other debris may surface almost 18 months afterthe jet vanished with 239 people on board.
