The insurance industry has produced some of the most memorableand effective commercials over the years, and also a few that havemissed the mark. During last night's telecast of Super Bowl XLIX,several insurance companies, including Esurance, Geico andNationwide, aired commercials during the game, one of which spawnedmemes by halftime. Lindsay Lohan knows her reputation as a terrible driver andpokes fun at it in Esurance's first commercial to air during thegame. The actress was arrested for DUIs in May and July of2007.

Walter White briefly returns to television in a spot thatcontinues Esurance's theme of making sure that customers pay forwhat's right for them, not someone "sorta" like them.

Geico continues its popular series with former CincinnattiBengals running back Ickey Woods. The insurer also aired its"Push It"commercial during the game.

Nationwide's first--and non-controversial--Super Bowl adfeatured actress and writer Mindy Kaling, who has an embarrassingmoment when she realizes that she does not possess the powers ofinvisibility.

The most talked about ad of the game--and one that is on many"worst commercial" lists.

The spot, in which a young boy narrates life events that hewould not experience because he had died, caused tens of thousandsof reactions on social media and was even a meme by halftime.

Nationwide released a statement after the commercial ran,defending the advertisement. "The sole purpose of this message wasto start a conversation, not sell insurance," the insurer said. "Weknew the ad would spur a variety of reactions. In fact, thousandsof people visited MakeSafeHappen.com, a new website to help educateparents and caregivers with information and resources in an effortto make their homes safer and avoid a potential injury ordeath."
