John A. Miklus has been named the new president of the AmericanInstitute of Marine Underwriters.
|Miklus succeeds James M. Craig, president of AIMU since 2003,who will retire from the trade association representing the U.S.ocean marine insurance market on December 31, 2013.
|“John brings his extensive marine insurance andreinsurance experience, valuable leadership and management skillsand personal commitment to professional education and careerdevelopment to represent the interests of U.S. ocean marineunderwriters before a variety of important international anddomestic forums and build on AIMU's outstanding education andtraining programs,” said AIMU chairman Roger F. Ablett, who ispractice leader at Allianz Global Corporate &Specialty.
|A senior ocean marine insurance and reinsurance executive,Miklus most recently was senior vice president at Guy Carpenter& Co., where he managed reinsurance client relationships forseveral leading U.S. marine insurers, as well as global marineinsurance companies based in Japan, South Korea andChina.
|Miklus began his insurance career as an inland/ocean marineunderwriter trainee at The Hartford Insurance Group in 1982 andheld several positions at Hart Re Company before becoming seniorvice president & marine treaty underwriter. A graduate ofBowdoin College, Miklus also has served as an instructor for AIMUeducational courses.
