In the fifth installment of the Shop Talk Community podcast series, George Grieve, author of the Shop Talk column in Tech Decisions magazine, interviews Tim Thackaberry, director of information technology at New Mexico Mutual Insurance.
Thackaberry has been in the insurance industry for 13 years, serving as director of IT for New Mexico Mutual since 2003. He has overseen the replacement of all of company's the core systems—policy, billing and claims—during his tenure with the organization. This has included the complete overhaul of all of the company's processes and a dramatic change in the company's technology profile.
His prior life as a programmer, combined with his thorough understanding of the workers' compensation business and experience with large-scale system changes, gives him a unique perspective on the challenges posed by the system replacement process.
