IASA announced the winners of its fourth annual scholarshipprogram for college students studying in an insurance-relatedfield. The top winner is Thomas Fiorillo, an actuary sciencestudent at St. John's University who received the $2,500 Walt MasonScholarship. IASA's top prize.

Established in 2010, the IASA Scholarship Program is ademonstration of the association's commitment to aiding students atthe sophomore level or above who are enrolled in a university withan insurance program and whose course of study includes workingtoward a degree in Information Technology (IT), Actuarial Science,Accounting or Risk Management.

After a thorough evaluation process, IASA's ScholarshipCommittee has selected fifteen worthy candidates to receive theassociation's 2013 scholarships. All of the scholarship recipientshave proven dedicated not only to academic excellence, but to thebetterment of themselves, their campuses and their communitiesthrough service and leadership.

This year, IASA has been able to expand the scholarship programthrough the generous funding received from a number of IASAchapters, companies and individuals who view the scholarshipprogram as making a difference in the lives of the candidates, aswell as the industry. The fifteen outstanding recipients of the 4thAnnual IASA Scholarship Program are:

  • Gurpreet Bedi, Virginia Commonwealth University, Finance/RiskManagement and Insurance

$1,000 Scholarships:

$500 Scholarships:

This year's recipients were recognized during the 2013 IASAAnnual Educational Conference and Business Show, in Washington,D.C. IASA and OneShield sponsored the Walt Mason Scholarship winner, Fiorilloto join the conference.
