Marsh & McLennan Cos. announced the addition of Keith Walsh as vice president, head of investor relations. Walsh's new position ends a 13 year equity research analyst role with Citi.

Lauri Benefiel joined Combined Agents of America as agency manager of its CAA Insurance Services division. She has a background in brokerage operations management.

SPARTA Insurance Co. appointed Tom Colosi to fill the role of senior vice president of underwriting. He recently led The Hardford's group captive program business and has 20 years of commercial insurance experience in alternative risk, commercial programs and national accounts.

Mergers & Acquisitions

Marsh & McLennan acquired Howalt+McDowell Insurance, an independent agency in South Dakota. Howalt+McDowell offers property-casualty, surety, personal protection and employee benefits insurance to individuals and midsize businesses in the upper Midwest. Marsh believes the acquisition will add high-quality, local talent to its upper Midwest region and compliment and expand resources available to its clients.

Markel launched a risk management portal for DataBreach policy holders that will assist in the prevention of network, cyber and privacy breaches and provide support for loss recovery. The portal will be powered and maintained by NetDiligence.

Aon Risk Solutions created Flood Secure, an insurance facility providing replacement coverage to U.S. organizations that have impaired aggregated flood limits on their property policy. Coverage will provide immediate reinstatement of impaired flood limits for up to $25 million and is backed by Lloyd's of London.

WAHVE is providing independent agencies and other firms hit by Sandy immediate access to experienced insurance workers to help with claims support work. WAHVE is offering a discount on its hourly rate and waiving the setup fee.
