I was in a meeting here in dreary San Diego at the IASA Conference on Sunday and someone got up to speak about the conference and said something that reminded me how far we still have to go in educating each other about what we do in the insurance industry.
In speaking of technology, the gentleman—who works on the financial side—said there were going to be several sessions at the conference on cloud computing, "and what I like to call IT gimmicks."
It still amazes me that there are people in the industry who believe there is some sort of voodoo work being done within the walls of the IT department (or someone up in the heavens). They talk about kinder, gentler days when information would come to them on paper and was passed around on paper. It didn't disappear and magically turn up on a monitor at your desk.
