Wholesale insurance veteran to manage RT Specialty office: Ryan Turner Specialty (RT Specialty) announced the Mark M. Smith has joined the firm as president and managing director of its New York office. Smith began his wholesale career in New York City with Trans World Excess, and spent six years with Horan Goldman managing their New York office.
Fireman's Fund Insurance announce new appointments: The Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. has reported that David Zona is now the chief underwriting officer and Kathleen Zortman is the chief field executive. Zona is responsible for setting the direction and priorities for commercial and personal insurance product lines and has primary accountability for driving profitable growth. In Zortman's role she will lead the field underwriting, customer service and sales teams to create a consistent experience for Fireman's Fund agents and broker partners.
New chief underwriting officer for Zurich: Mary Merkel has been appointed as the regional chief underwriting officer for Zurich in North America. She replaces Tim Carter, who left the company to pursue another opportunity.
FWCIGA adds new member to board of directors: The Florida Workers' Compensation Insurance Guaranty Assn. has names Mark Hogle to its board of directors. Hogle is senior vice president and regional manager for EMPLOYERS' eastern region. He will serve a two-year term as a carrier representative and responsibilities include oversight of the evaluation of workers' compensation claims transferred to the Assn. as the result of an insurer's insolvency, as well as making recommendations to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation of the need for an assessment if necessary to pay claims of an insolvent insurer.
Willis appoints CEO: Global insurance broker Willis International has delegated Tim Wright as its chief executive officer. David Margrett, the current CEO of Willis, is leaving to pursue other interests. Wright joined Willis in 2008 as the Group Chief Operating Officer and has over 20 years of international experience in the insurance and financial services industries.
Lockton expands New York City office: Lockton grows its financial services insurance and risk management practice with Derek M. Lakin a senior vice president in New York City. Lakin joins Lockton after more than 17 years with Marsh, most recently serving as Senior Vice President and Team Leader for the broker's New York City Commercial FINPRO team. His responsibilities included the placement and servicing of predominately Fortune 500 and large/mega cap business in the executive liability arena.
Hobbs to lead corporate development at Applied Systems: Applied Systems, an insurance software company, reported that Ryan Hobbs has joined the company as senior vice president of corportate development. Hobbs is responsible for business strategy and merger and acquisition initiatives at Applied Systems, the major provider of insurance agency and broker management software in the United States and Canada.
Hildebrand and Eichhorn to lead ar Breckenridge: Breckenridge Insurance Group realigned its property casualty insurance operations naming William A. Hildebrand as president and CEO of Breckenridge Insurance Services' brokerage division. Michael J. Eichhorn was also named executive vice president and COO of Breckenridge Insurance Services.

Aspen and Brownstone join forces: Aspen US Insurance (Aspen) and Brownstone Insurance Agency (Brownstone) have formed a partnership to bring their combined underwriting and claims expertise to the commercial residential property market. The partnership allows Brownstone to increase the depth of service and coverage it offers and provides opportunity for expansion and innovation.
Lockton and First Equity join to open office in South Africa: Lockton and First Equity Risk Management Services announce plans to form a new South African joint venture company Lockton First Equity to provide commercial insurance brokerage services in South Africa. The venture will service Lockton's retail insurance brokerage clients in South Africa and also seek to combine Lockton's and First Equity's respective reputations and commercial capabilities to generate new business in South Africa.
