Insurance brokers Marsh and Willis announced executive appointments this week.

Marsh, a subsidiary of New York-based Marsh & McLennan Companies, named Bill Pieroni chief operating officer effective Sept. 19.

Pieroni will be responsible for the firm’s global operations, and will focus on the Marsh platform. He will be based in New York and report to Peter Zaffino, president and chief executive officer of Marsh.

Pieroni was senior vice president at State Farm, responsible for U.S. and international strategic planning, competitor and consumer research, internal consulting, as well as leading key transformational initiatives across the enterprise.

Prior to joining State Farm in 2006, Pieroni served as Aon’s senior vice president and global Chief Information Officer.

Willis Group Holdings named Seth Peller as CEO of Willis Argentina S.A. He is based in Willis’ Buenos Aires office.

He joined Willis in 1992 and was most recently the group’s regional placement officer for Latin America, operating out of São Paulo, Brazil, a position he held since 2008.

Peller was an executive director in Willis’ North American casualty business in London for 12 years working on insurance program design and placement of excess casualty risks for a large cross-section of the U.S. industry.

He started his career in Willis’ North American casualty claims department before broking professional risks.
