Judge James F.X. Doyle sentenced former Suffolk County, N.Y. legislator George Guldi after he pocketed an insurance check paid out by AIG. Guldi was given two sentences, 3 to 9 years for second-degree grand larceny and 1 to 3 years for third-degree insurance fraud, to be served consecutively.
On Feb. 16, Guldi was convicted after pocketing the payout rather than having it held in escrow to fund the reconstruction of a house that had burned down in 2008. He was ordered to pay $863,473.30 in restitution.
One insurance adjuster, Bruce Schlosser, was granted an order of protection, after testifying against Guldi, as he felt threatened by Guldi. At one point, Schlosser referred to Guldi as "Bernie Madoff with guns."
