TSR Atlantic Storm Predictions 2011 Forecaster Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) joins a list calling for a more active than usual 2011 Atlantic hurricane season.

The U.K.-based research group backed by reinsurance intermediary Aon Benfield, global insurer RSA Insurance Group and claims management solutions Crawford & Company says there will be eight hurricanes in 2011, with four becoming major storms (Category 3 or higher).

TSR calls for 14 named storms for the season, which begins June 1 and lasts until the end of November.

AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center meteorologists called for 15 named storms, eight hurricanes and three major hurricanes.

At the start of the year, forecasters at Colorado State University's Tropical Meteorology Project and Weather Services International (WSI), part of the Weather Channel Companies, projected 17 named storms in 2011, including nine hurricanes and five major hurricanes.

The average hurricane season has about 10 named storms, six hurricanes and three major hurricanes.

Though activity during last year’s hurricane season was high, with 19 named storms and 12 hurricanes, the U.S. was not directly affected by a landfall.
