I'm very sorry to hear thatEric Dinallo, New York's former insurance superintendent, failed togain much traction in his primary race to be the Democraticcandidate for attorney general in the state, drawing only 8 percentof the vote yesterday. Mr. Dinallo is a class act, and I doubtwe've heard the last of him on the New York political scene. In case you are interested, the winner in the primarywas State Senator Eric Schneiderman, followed closely by NassauCounty District Attorney Kathleen Rice. Mr. Dinallo actuallyfinished behind two other candidates as well.

While flooding the airwaves with TV ads in the final days of thecampaign, Mr. Dinallo was unable to overcome a name recognitionhandicap in a race that drew few voters to the polls. He was simplytoo invisible early on in the campaign, and not even a couple ofmajor endorsements could overcome his lack of presence with thegeneral public.

|

He was also a protege of sorts of his former boss (twice), EliotSpitzer, whose own brand reputation challenges might havediscouraged some voters who do not know Mr. Dinallo's outstandingtrack record from voting for anyone associated with the disgracedformer governor.

It's a shame, but that's politics.
