Penn National Insurance announced that Dennis C. Rowe, will retire as chief executive officer on Oct. 1, but continue to hold his position as company chairman.

Mr. Rowe began his career at Penn National in 1967, had been president and CEO since 1998, and chairman and CEO since 2007.
