A man who once pledged to serve and protect his community will now serve time in a correctional facility.
|It is unclear as to why Marvin Johnson, 46, veered to the other side of the law. Trouble began for the former Bolivar County Deputy Sheriff and Rosedale, Miss. police officer when he filed a fraudulent insurance claim for alleged theft of his Toyoda Avalon on December 7, 2005. This case was referred to the Attorney General's Insurance Fraud Division by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) and prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorneys General Stanley Alexander and Courtney Schloemer.
|A Panola County Circuit Court jury subsequently found Johnson guilty of felony insurance fraud, the sentencing for which will take place in the coming weeks. According to Miss. Attorney General Jim Hood's office, Johnson faces a maximum penalty of three years in the custody of the Miss. Department of Corrections, along with a $10,000 fine, and double repayment of investigative costs.
