|J. Powell Brown, president of Daytona Beach, Fla.-basedinsurance broker Brown & Brown Inc., was named to succeed hisfather, J. Hyatt Brown, as chief executive officer upon hisretirement on July 1.
|J. Hyatt Brown will continue to serve as chairman of the board,involving himself in acquisitions and recruitment, the companysaid.
|J. Hyatt Brown said in a statement yesterday: "Based on 50 yearsof experience in the insurance industry, I believe the leadershipteam responsible for this company's operations is second to none. Iam confident that Powell will devote his utmost in time, talent andenergy to grow and improve the organization, and I look forward tohelping in whatever way I can, especially in the areas ofacquisitions and recruitment."
|J. Powell Brown was named president in January 2007 when thefirm announced its succession plan. He was named a director laterthat same year. He has worked as one of the company's regionalexecutive vice presidents since 2002.
|He was a profit center leader of the company's Orlando, Fla.,office from 1998 to 2003 and marketing manager in the headquartersoffice from 1995 to 1998. Before joining Brown & Brown he waswith Continental Insurance Company.
