The best place to work in New York City turns out to be an insurance brokerage firm based in Kansas City, Mo., according to the results of a recent survey.

Lockton Companies, LLC, garnered the number one spot in a survey of 25,399 employees at more than 300 New York City companies. The survey was sponsored by Crain's New York Business in partnership with Quantum Market Research.

The results were of companies with 50 or more employees in New York City based on a 38-question survey answered by employees. The rankings were based solely on their responses.

Lockton has 51 employees in New York City, out of a total of 3,800 firm-wide.

The survey measures the extent to which employees feel valued, whether they trust the organization's leadership, and whether they see potential for personal advancement.

“Lockton is a great place to work because we have talented and dedicated associates,” Tim Ryan, chief operating officer for Lockton Northeast, said in a statement. “It's an honor to be recognized, and we look forward to future growth in New York.”

Lockton said its other offices in Washington D.C., Denver, Chicago and Kansas City have earned similar honors.

The survey was published Nov. 17.
