London-based insurance broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc reported that for the first half of the year net income rose 9 percent.

In a brief statement the company reported net income of ?44 million ($87 million), an increase of 9 percent, or ?4 million ($8 million), over the same period last year.

The results were on a 9 percent increase in commissions and fees of ?22 million ($43 million) to ?266 million ($526 million).

The firm did not report quarterly results.

Dominic Burke, chief executive of Jardine, said in a statement: "These results demonstrate that we have made good progress across the group, whilst making investments in bolt-on acquisitions and start-up operations. We continue to be firmly on track to deliver sustainable, profitable growth despite a challenging global economic and insurance rating environment."
