Hyland Software, the developer of the OnBase enterprise content management software suite, has acquired Liberty Information Management Systems. The transaction was private, and terms of the agreement were not disclosed. By acquiring Liberty, Hyland is able to add more than 1,000 Liberty client organizations to Hyland's base of 7,200 customers. Hyland also will extend its reseller channel base with an established network of channel partners who possess domain expertise in selling and supporting document imaging, COLD/ERM, and workflow solutions to organizations in Hyland's target vertical markets

In addition, the deal allows Hyland to broaden its presence in the western United States and central Canada by maintaining Liberty's offices and an existing team of experienced ECM professionals in Costa Mesa, Calif., and Ottawa, Ont.

Since 1987, Liberty IMS has secured more than 1,000 implementations of its LibertyNET and LibertyNET Office products in organizations spanning several vertical markets, including financial services and healthcare. In acquiring Liberty, Hyland adds a team of professionals with technical and sales expertise to help optimize the company's document-centric business processes. Moreover, Liberty brings to Hyland an established network of channel partners that can help expand Hyland's own network of solutions providers in key U.S. and Canadian regional markets.

"Liberty and Hyland Software share the same values," says Steve Lehrer, formerly chief solutions officer at Liberty who will be joining Hyland as a senior member of the product team. "Both companies have remained focused on developing solutions driven by customer requirements and not industry hype. Bringing our two companies together will provide our customers and partners with an even broader set of capabilities with which to drive down costs and decrease inefficiencies while improving their business processes."
