Australian insurer QBE said it has named Chris Fish as its chief financial officer for QBE the Americas, based in New York.
Mr. Fish has been with QBE since 1995 and has held several key positions within the company's finance organization, the company said. QBE said he moves into this senior management position from his role as CFO and executive vice president of QBE Specialty and QBE Reinsurance, two business units of QBE the Americas.
In his former role, Mr. Fish was responsible for overseeing five functional departments including financial services, tax, actuarial, internal audit and risk, and strategic planning.
The company said Mr. Fish's 20-plus years of industry experience includes positions at American International Group and Reinsurance Corporation of New York.
QBE the Americas is a division of Australia's QBE Insurance Group Ltd., a major global insurers and reinsurers worldwide. The Americas division, headquartered in New York, sells insurance and reinsurance in North and South America.
According to Highline Data, a Summit Business Media Company, which also owns National Underwriter, QBE is ranked as the 25th largest insurer in the United States with $3.25 billion in direct premium written in 2007. QBE said it has an estimated premium of more than $4 billion and a combined policyholders' surplus of more than $2 billion in 2008.
