WASHINGTON–The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) said today that it has hired a key House Financial Services Committee staff member as its senior vice president of policy development and research.
Robert Gordon is currently serving as senior counsel for the Republican minority on the Financial Services panel.
He will start work in his new post Aug. 1, PCI said.
Mr. Gordon, the organization said, will be based in Washington as head of the PCI policy development and research division, which is currently based at PCI's headquarters in Des Plaines, Ill. The post has been vacant for a year.
“We are pleased to have an experienced, analytical leader of Robert's caliber join PCI and enhance our position as the industry thought leader,” said David Sampson, president and CEO of PCI.
“As we address the challenging economic, regulatory and political environments, sound policy development and research will be critical to advancing the agenda for property and casualty insurers. Drawing on 16 years of experience with the U.S. House of Representatives, Robert will bring an impressive depth of knowledge on policy formation, legislative strategy, consensus building and the financial services sector,” said Mr. Sampson.
Mr. Gordon first worked on Capitol Hill as legal counsel for Rep. David Drier, R-Calif., at the time a key Republican member of the then House Banking Committee.
He began his career in Washington, D.C. as an associate with Wiley, Rein & Fielding.
