Insurance companies with physical plants in China's earthquake area suffered a huge loss in personnel and property, according to Risk Management Solutions, citing a China Insurance Regulatory Commission announcement.

According to incomplete statistics cited by the Newark, Calif.-based RMS modeling firm, the authority said insurers sustained 28 collapsed buildings and 392 destroyed houses within 43 branches and 209 sub-branches.

Among 250 agents of insurance companies, there were 17 fatalities, 122 employees injured and 145 agents injured.
