A key element for any risk manager seeking to prevent fraudulent workers' compensation claims is the organization's human resources unit, but how well the operation manages this depends on how they interact with the investigating facility.
HR professionals' hands will be tied up in a case--or liberated--depending on the responsiveness of the case investigator, whether that be the company's special investigation unit (if the firm is self-insured) or its insurance company's third-party administrator.
There are some things HR can do to facilitate the investigation process. Being on the lookout for certain red flags that could tip off potential fraudulent claims is one.
