The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America said U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, is scheduled to address its members during the organization's April Legislative Conference and Convention in Washington.
Sen. Collins will be a featured speaker at the Legislative Conference Breakfast on April 3, part of the association's program for that week.
The IIABA's meeting will run April 2-4 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington.
"Sen. Collins is a pragmatist and widely regarded as a knowledgeable leader on insurance issues," said Robert A. Rusbuldt, IIABA president and chief executive officer.
IIABA, he said, looks forward to hearing her thoughts on insurance regulation, natural disaster and other important topics.
During this year's conference, IIABA member agents and brokers will hold meetings with their elected officials on Capitol Hill to give their view on how a variety of legislation affects their business.
Top issues this year include agent licensing reform, insurance regulatory reform, flood insurance and natural disasters.
The conference will also feature an in-depth issues briefing session, the annual IIABA congressional reception on Capitol Hill, appearances by various speakers and an industry trade show.
Prior to the conference, Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Pa., chairman of the Capital Markets Subcommittee of the House Financial Services Committee, will address members of the association's executive committee, government affairs committee, and agents and brokers from Mr. Kanjorski's home state of Pennsylvania, along with other agent and broker leaders on April 1.
Rep. Kanjorski's committee has jurisdiction over most insurance and securities and exchange matters.
The conference will also feature an election-year debate between Democratic strategist Paul Begala and conservative commentator Tucker Carlson of MSNBC's "Tucker." The debate will be moderated by Mr. Rusbuldt.
Registration for the conference and hotel reservations are available online at www.independentagent.com.
