A typhoon has been tracked in the southeast region of Japan andis expected to move north-northwest, picking up speed and intensityin the next three days, according to London-based Carvill InsuranceIntermediary.
|The company said Typhoon Usagi will reach the equivalent of aCategory 4 storm over the next few days. Current model forecastsclaim landfall will be made on the southwestern coast of Japan onThursday.
|Usagi represents a threat to Japan but Carvill says it is unableyet to pin down a more precise landfall location.
|In additional news, tropical storm Chantal is approachingHalifax, Nova Scotia, southwest of Cape Race, Newfoundland,according to the National Weather Service.
|The tropical storm is strengthening, but is headed for coolerwaters and will continue to increase in forward speed today andtonight, said the National Weather Service.
