The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York elected Stephen R. Zogby as its new chairman during its recent business meeting.

Mr. Zogby, executive vice president of Scalzo, Zogby & Wittig Inc., New Hartford, N.Y., will succeed Sharon Emek, a director at CBS Coverage Group in New York City, who concluded her one-year term as chairwoman.

In a statement, Mr. Zogby said the association continues to promote the same close relationships among its members it worked to do 125 years ago at its founding. He said it would continue its leadership in advancing such issues as passage of workers’ compensation reform legislation, extension of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act, improved flood insurance coverage and other coastal market issues affecting New York City, Long Island and Westchester County.

At its May 11 meeting in Verona, N.Y., the association also elected Neal L. Sullivan, president of Sullivan Financial Group of Mahopac, N.Y., as chairman-elect, and John G. Berger Jr. as secretary-treasurer.
