Since filing firsthand reports in print and on my blog about how insurers were beaten like a pi?ata at a Feb. 28 Congressional hearing on Hurricane Katrina claims, I've heard grumbling that perhaps I didn't give a fair assessment of how the industry's sole witness represented the business.
One party complained I made Insurance Information Institute President Robert P. Hartwig sound like a lamb being led to slaughter. All I can tell you is that you had to be there.
For the record, I believe that Bob did the best job he could presenting the industry's case that the vast majority of Katrina claims were settled fairly and quickly–and that only a small percentage are still in dispute.
