The Board of Directors of Brown & Brown, Inc. has announced the initial implementation of the company's executive succession plan. The plan contemplates J. Powell Brown assuming the office of chief executive officer in July 2009, the date Hyatt Brown is expected to retire from that position.

As an initial step in the plan, current President and COO Jim W. Henderson has been promoted to vice chairman and COO. Henderson was elected president and COO in 2002 and serves as a director of the company, and as a director and executive officer of several of the company's subsidiaries.

J. Powell Brown the regional executive vice president responsible for certain wholesale brokerages and public entity operations, was named president.
