American International Group Inc. said it has created the position of AIG chief diversity officer and named Terri D. Austin, an attorney with its brokerage group, to the post.

The company said Ms. Austin will be based in its New York headquarters and will report to Steven J. Bensinger, AIG executive vice president and chief financial officer.

According to AIG, Ms. Austin in her new post will provide executive oversight and leadership for AIG's diversity efforts worldwide and be responsible for expanding and implementing AIG's diversity initiatives in the workforce, as well as those relating to AIG products, suppliers, vendors and its customer base.
