Infrastructure equipment company SOLA Communications hasrecently provided its Emergency Response Units (ERU) to companiesfor emergency telecommunications backup in the event of ahurricane.

The ERUs, according to SOLA, keep the lines of communicationopen so that companies can continue to communicate to theircustomers, partners and employees in the event local and regionaltelecommunications infrastructure becomes inoperable. The ERU iscontained in a trailer and can deploy and activate withinminutes.

One company using the ERU as a mobile claims office is FARAInsurance Services, aka F.A. Richard and Associates. The LouisianaOffshore Oil Port, which distributes the nation's oil supply and isvulnerable to communication disruptions given its close proximityto the Gulf of Mexico, will use its ERU for emergency backupcommunications in the event of a hurricane.
