Claims News Service, July 26, 11:15 a.m. EDT -- The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (the Big "I") is teaming up with the New Orleans chapter of the nonprofit housing ministry Habitat for Humanity this fall to rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The effort, called the Big "I" Community Project, will take place during its Fall Leadership Conference, also in the Big Easy, on Sept. 8.
"When I asked our membership if they'd like to volunteer their time in New Orleans to participate in this community rebuilding project, the response was unanimously positive," said William Stiglitz III, Big "I" president.
Habitat builds and restores simple houses with the help of the future homeowner families, volunteer labor, and financial and material donations. To date, the organization has built more than 200,000 houses around the world for those in need.
